Terms of service

The service

These terms are an agreement between you and [Company legal name], the company that runs Aptaneo. Please read them before you use Aptaneo. By creating an account, you accept these terms.

Aptaneo helps adults prepare for the IELTS General Training test. It assesses your listening, reading, writing and speaking. It compares your results with the CLB level you need, and it gives you a study plan and practice.

Our Privacy policy explains how we use your data. Our Refund policy is part of these terms.

Who can use Aptaneo

You must be 18 or older to use Aptaneo. You must also be able to make a legal agreement where you live.

If you use Aptaneo for an employer or a school, you confirm that you may accept these terms for them.

Your account

• Give us correct information, and keep your email address up to date. We send receipts and important notices there.
• Keep your password secret. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
• One account is for one person. Do not share your account.
• If you think someone else used your account, change your password and write to support@aptaneo.com at once.

The free diagnostic

Each account can take one free diagnostic. You can choose the quick format, about one hour, or the full format, about two hours and 45 minutes.

Quick results are marked "Preliminary". They give you a direction, not a level. You can start the diagnostic without an account, but you must create a free account to save the result.

If we see many free accounts for one person, we may remove the extra accounts.

Passes and payment

After the diagnostic, you can buy a pass. A pass gives you full access for a fixed period. Every pass has the same features. Only the length is different.

• One payment. You pay once, in US dollars, on a secure Stripe page. The price you see includes any tax we must collect. We never store your card for later charges.
• It never renews. When your pass ends, access ends. We do not charge you again. You can buy a new pass if you need more time.
• Monthly allowance. Some activities, such as scored essays and speaking assessments, have a monthly allowance, for example [n] scored essays each month. Pricing shows the allowance for each activity. It resets on the same day of the month as your purchase. For example, if you buy on 12 September, it resets on the 12th of each month. If a month has no such day, it resets on the last day of that month.
• When a pass ends. You keep your free account, your history and your reports. Scored practice is locked until you buy a new pass.
• Price changes. A new price never changes a pass you already bought.

Refunds

You can ask for a full refund within 7 days of your purchase, for any reason. You do not need to explain why. A refund ends that pass at once. Your free account and your history stay.

What we do not promise

Please read this section carefully. It explains what Aptaneo can and cannot do for you.

• No score predictions. We never tell you what you will score on test day.
• No guarantees. We do not guarantee any IELTS band, CLB level or test result.
• Practice estimates are not official results. Our scores come from practice evidence. They are not IELTS results, and you cannot use them for an application.
• No affiliation. Aptaneo is not affiliated with IDP, British Council or Cambridge University Press & Assessment. IELTS is a registered trademark of its owners.
• No immigration advice. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) makes all immigration decisions. Always check the language requirements for your program on the IRCC website.

Acceptable use

To keep Aptaneo fair and safe for everyone, you agree not to:

• share your account or your password with another person;
• upload essays, recordings or documents that belong to someone else, or that you do not have the right to share;
• copy, scrape or download our questions, passages, audio or feedback with automated tools;
• publish or sell our test content;
• try to break, overload or get around the security of the service;
• use Aptaneo to break the law or to harm other people.

If you break these rules, we may limit or close your account. See Ending your account.

Your content

You own the essays, recordings and other content you create in Aptaneo. We do not own them.

To run the service, you give us permission, called a licence, to store, copy and process your content. We use this permission only to score your work, give you feedback, build your plan and keep your history. The permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we must keep by law.

We use your content to improve our scoring only if you say yes to research use in Privacy settings. This is a separate choice, and you can change it at any time.

Our questions, passages, audio, feedback text and software belong to us or to our licensors.

Availability and changes

We work to keep Aptaneo available at all times, but we cannot promise it will never stop. We may stop it for short periods for maintenance. If an outage stops a timed assessment, we tell you what happened to your time, and you can take it again.

We improve Aptaneo often. We may add, change or remove features. If a change removes a main feature during your paid pass, we will offer you a fair solution, for example extra days or a partial refund.

We may change these terms. We email you about important changes at least [n] days before they start. If you do not agree, you can stop using Aptaneo and ask for a refund of the unused part of your pass.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings, Privacy. Deleting your account does not give you a refund, unless you are still within the 7-day refund period.

We may limit or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we see fraud. When possible, we warn you first and explain why. If we close your account without a good reason under these terms, we refund the unused part of your pass.

After an account closes, we delete your data as described in the Privacy policy.

Limits of our liability

To confirm This section must be reviewed for each country where Aptaneo is sold.

We provide Aptaneo "as is". We are not responsible for your test result, for an immigration decision, or for a missed deadline.

If we are responsible for a loss, the most we must pay is the amount you paid us in the [n] months before the problem. We are not responsible for indirect losses, for example lost income.

Nothing in these terms limits any right that consumer law in your country gives you and that cannot be limited by contract.

Governing law

These terms follow the laws of [Governing law]. Disputes go to the courts of [Governing law], unless the law of the country where you live gives you the right to go to your local courts.
