Who we are

Aptaneo is an online service that helps adults prepare for the IELTS General Training test. [Company legal name] runs Aptaneo. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean that company.

We decide how and why your personal data is used. In some laws, this makes us the "controller" of your data.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to assess your English and plan your practice.

Account details
Your name, email address and password. We store the password in a scrambled form (a hash), so we cannot read it.
Your target and plan
The CLB level you want, your weekly study time and your test date, if you have one.
Your essays
The letters and essays you write in writing tasks, and the feedback we create for them.
Your recordings
The audio from speaking tasks and mic checks.
Transcripts
A text version of each recording. We create it so that we can score your speaking.
Uploaded score reports
If you upload an official IELTS test report, we read the four band scores from it.
Answers and results
Your answers in listening and reading, your scores and your practice history. You can delete a finished reading or listening attempt from its report: your answers and score are erased, and we keep a record that you used that test form. Backups are not erased immediately.
Payment records
The pass you bought, the date, the amount and the last four digits of your card. You pay on a secure Stripe page. We never see or store your full card number.
Usage events
Which pages you open and which buttons you use, for example "started a reading section". These events never contain the text of your essays or the audio of your recordings.
Device and log data
Your IP address, browser type and error logs. We use these to keep the service safe and working.
Cookies
Small files in your browser. Necessary cookies keep you signed in. Analytics and marketing cookies are off until you turn them on. Use Cookie preferences in the footer of any public page to change your choice.

AI scoring and transcription

An AI service scores your writing and speaking against the four public IELTS criteria. It also turns your recordings into text. We send it your essay, or your recording, and the task prompt. We do not send your name or email address.

The AI provider is OpenAI [to confirm]. It processes your content only to return a score and feedback to us.

  • No training on your content. The provider does not use your essays or recordings to train its models. To confirm with provider terms
  • No research use without a separate yes. We use your content to improve our own scoring only if you turn on this option in Privacy settings. This choice is separate from these terms. Saying no does not change your access, your results or your price.
  • A person can check. If you think a score is wrong, write to support. A member of our team will look at it.

AI scores are practice estimates. They are not official IELTS results.
